Did somebody tell you it was going to be easy? Easy money making- “just join this opportunity.” Easy success – “create a business online fast when you buy this E-course.”

Somehow I seemed to have an idea etched in my brain that is was going to be easy.

I am talking about creating a life for yourself that includes a successful business and financial wealth.

There seems to be some kind of pervasive thread running through our culture. I am talking about the expectation that we “deserve” success. You know, all you need to do is read a Robert Kiyosaki book put forth some effort on the weekends for a couple of months and Voila our dreams come true.

Can this happen? I am sure a few will have an experience like I describe above but not most. Often what I see happening is the normal challenges and obstacles show up and the success attitude starts to corrode. “This doesn’t work”, or “There is no way to go beyond this issue”, or “It’s too hard” are all common gripes. All of this boils down to Entitlement. It is amazing how much of our culture believes that it is entitled to success without paying the price it requires. Just to set the record straight here, I am recovering from entitlement myself!

Here is the crazy thing: Feeling entitled will keep you stuck without success, without wealth and without true enjoyment that comes from really living life. When you feel entitled you give your power away.

Here is the reason: When you believe the world (world means anything or anybody) owes you something you focus negatively on what is missing from your life. You also put your focus outside yourself on whomever or whatever you believe owes it to you. You miss the huge truth that you are the only one who can create what you want and that’s as should be! Do you really want to wait for something outside yourself to get your life going?

OK, now that we have cleared the air let’s discuss the road to success. First, make sure your dreams make you feel giddy and aren’t someone else’s. If you are trying to fulfill someone else’s idea of success for you, you will not be able to persevere through the inevitable obstacles that test your commitment.

Next be really clear about what you want (you don’t need to know How yet) so you can build a momentum of activity on your part while putting in your order to the invisible power that helps you create it in a bigger and better way than you could imagine.

Decide right now that you will continue to go for your goal until you reach it, “No Matter What.” This means you don’t expect it to be handed to you. You only reap the rewards after you have re-created yourself and habits commensurate to what is truly required for achievement and taken consistent action. Sometimes you will do this for years! This means that if you have a goal to be a millionaire, you must develop millionaire habits.

Do not be fooled and waste many years learning this the hard way as I did! I am telling you this so you can take a shortcut! Recognize if you have a tendency toward entitlement. Be honest, but do not be hard on yourself. As I mentioned above, a high percentage of Americans are this way (over 90 %!). The best course of action is to notice your thoughts and how you talk (in your head and to others). When you hear negativity start to pay attention. You have a choice to shift it to an attitude of taking responsibility for your life.

If you continually search for easy money making, you will never experience true success. There is no greater fulfillment that taking the wheel and designing your life! The reward of knowing you are truly living life and contributing in a positive way starting with your attitude. With this attitude the world of your dreams and riches is an open possibility.

I must admit Twitter is a bit strange.  Having said that it can also be a great place to connect with people socially and do some quality networking.  Here I am going to share with you some great ways to have more fun and more easily find the type of people you want to get to know.  I will also give you some tips on how to maximize your tweeting time without spending hours.

First I am going to share some free things you can do to enhance your experience.

I have found and easier way to connect with people on twitter and it is called “Tweet Deck”.  This is a free download that you can find if you Google it.  Tweet Deck has 4 columns.  You can see Direct Messages in one, @replies in another, everyone’s posts and even add on based on a search word.  It allows you to post tweets, RT’s, DM’s.  You can see people’s profiles too plus much more!

Twollo.com allows you to follow people based on keywords.   If you are interested in baseball pitching you can search that and quickly follow others who hold that interest.  This makes twitter more fun and gives you the ability to connect with your perfect clients and customers.

Go to Twitterlocal.net and download it.  This is an amazing way to find people in your geographic area.  If you have a business that requires your clientele to be nearby this is an absolute necessity!  Most business owners do not use social media to market their local businesses.   You can put yourself way ahead of the game if you are active on twitter.  One important point – be careful to share information that addresses solving your prospective customers problems, don’t just blurt out constant advertising because it turns people off.  Give valuable information that softly leads them to doing business with you. 

Once you pass 2,000 followers Twitter will not allow you to follow more than 10% of the number of people following you.  This means if you have 3,000 followers Twitter will not let you follow more than 3,300 people.  About 1/3 of the people you follow will follow you.  This means you must unfollow people who don’t follow you back to keep building your account.  Huitter.com is easy to use any-time you want to effortlessly unfollow those who don’t follow you.  Just enter your username and password, pick the manual setting and start.  It works amazingly in accounts below 10,000 followers and will save you tons of time!

Here is software that is not free but is well worth the cost.  It is a one-time cost that will pay for itself fast, about $50.  “TweetAdder” is so cool.  I wish I had started using it months ago!  It is your one stop shopping for automating aspects of your account while still allowing you to interact personally.  In the flash of a few minutes you can find targeted people to follow by keyword, location, profile data etc., effortlessly save the list and you can follow them instantly.  Simultaneously, you can unfollow those who don’t follow you (even adding a lag time of your choice).  You can pre-set tweets to be posted at intervals you set.  This is great to give you a bigger presence on Twitter. Have you been boggled by the idea of how to make money from using twitter?  It is possible!  I speak from experience.  I have had success with both my “brick and mortar” acupuncture business and my online business!

How does one do this?

First of all let’s talk about what not to do.

Take yourself on a tour of twitter.   You can take somewhat of a random sample by following someone, doesn’t matter who.  Then go to some of your follower’s profiles and follow 5 of their followers.  Do this again and again until you have followed 100 people.

Start checking out their posts.  Here is what you will notice.  Of course many are just tweeting about general stuff going on in their life.  Keep looking and you will see many are pushing their businesses hard and don’t do much else.  This is very annoying to most, and rarely will one make any kind of decent sales doing this.  Those who do this are akin to the person you don’t know that cold calls you trying to sell you something you don’t need!  Don’t do this, it is a waste of your precious time and energy and you will not be popular.

Instead, think of it this way; people want to feel they know, like and trust you before they pull out their wallets.  You know it just does not matter if you are selling the best product on planet earth!

Everyone is self-absorbed with their problems.  People do not just buy products; they buy solutions to their problems!  And they only buy solutions to their problems from those they like and trust!  If you get what I just wrote in the previous 3 sentences you have made it more than ½ way to making money on twitter (or anywhere for that matter!).

Think about how you can build relationships while you solve other’s problems.  Spend most of your time tweeting valuable information about your area of interest.  If you are in the health and wellness industry you can share a tip on how to maximize your immune system during cold and flu season.  You can build even more trust by becoming an author.  This is easy!  Get accounts with Squidoo Lens, Hub pages and Ezine articles to name a few.  Write articles on your area of expertise.  Next, put the links to those articles in your tweets.

Here is one step better, have your own blog with all of your great articles on it.  Then when they click on your article link they have come to your territory and you have the chance to solidify a positive relationship.  On your blog you can have an area with all of your products and services on it.  If people like what you share, they are much more likely to become customers.   Realize this works but you will not see results overnight!

People need to see the value and believe that you can help them.  Then they will be led to your products and services and buy them.  This is how you monetize twitter!
